NYMTC 911 Memorial Program 20th Anniversary

The September 11th Memorial Program would not have been possible without the support from the families of Ignatius Adanga, Charles Lesperance, and See Wong Shum.

NYMTC's September 11th Memorial Program for Regional Transportation Planning was created to honor the memory of Ignatius Adanga, Charles Lesperance, and See Wong Shum, the three NYMTC employees who lost their lives during the September 11, 2001, attacks on the World Trade Center.

Through this program, students are challenged to develop creative solutions to difficult transportation problems by conducting advanced transportation research and planning projects under the guidance of a mentor from NYMTC or a NYMTC member agency. The September 11th Memorial Program provides a benefit to the NYMTC planning area while enhancing each student's educational experience.

Open to full-time graduate-level students in New York or New Jersey and prospective graduate students who apply concurrently with their graduate school application; the September 11 Memorial Program is funded through NYMTC's Unified Planning Work Program and is currently administered by the Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation at Rutgers, part of the Rutgers School of Engineering.

The September 11th Memorial Program was announced on November 18, 2004, during ceremonies to commemorate the return of NYMTC's headquarters to lower Manhattan and officially launched in early 2005. Now entering its 20th year, more than 60 students have participated in this program.
